DPM Abazović, Ambassador Thimonier: France supports Montenegro on its European integration path

Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro Dritan Abazović hosted the newly appointed Ambassador of the French Republic to Montenegro, H. E. Christian Thimonier.

The Deputy Prime Minister extended a warm welcome and wishes for a successful term to Ambassador Thimonier. DPM Abazović informed Ambassador Thimonier about the Government's activities over the past three months and priorities for future work.

DPM Abazović said that membership in the European Union is Government's foreign policy priority, adding that he looks forward to cooperation with France, especially within NATO.

The Deputy Prime Minister stated that the fight against corruption and organised crime is one of the priorities of the Government's work and that the Government of Montenegro strongly advocates greater distribution of justice.

Ambassador Thimonier thanked DPM Abazović for his warm welcome. The French Ambassador stated that Montenegro and France cherish traditionally good relations, adding that the two countries continue to have excellent cooperation, with France's undoubted support in Montenegro's EU accession process.

Furthermore, DPM Abazović and Ambassador Thimonier discussed economic cooperation between Montenegro and France, as well as cooperation in the area of tourism and culture.

The two officials agreed that COVID-19 pandemic has left major consequences for the world economy and that a particular recovery effort will be needed.
