EBRD ready to boost economic growth in Montenegro

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is ready to provide a boost to Montenegro's accelerated economic growth, as conveyed during the meeting between Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso, who is paying a visit to our country.

Discussions during the meeting revolved around significant development potentials that need to be efficiently and sustainably valorised.

Prime Minister Spajić presented the ambitious development plans of the 44th Government, and opportunities for collaborative work with EBRD on numerous projects were identified.

Emphasis was placed on the announced collaboration in developing renewable energy capacities, thereby accelerating green transition, and enhancing infrastructure through highway construction and railway modernization.

The Prime Minister underscored the importance of cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which has thus far supported 86 projects worth €800 million in Montenegro.

Efficient resolution of administrative procedures was recognised as crucial to swiftly embarking on projects that will bring added value to Montenegro.

It was reiterated that EBRD will continue to support and partner with both the private sector and state-owned companies.

Reforms, particularly in the tax system, were also discussed to enhance Montenegro's attractiveness to investors and leverage its excellent geographical position and climate.

Prime Minister Spajić briefed EBRD President Renaud-Basso and other members of the EBRD delegation on the achievements of the 44th Government thus far and acquainted them with plans for the upcoming period.
