Prime Minister Milojko Spajić addressed the plenary session of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) in Brussels, highlighting the significance of gradual integration into the European Union system for candidate countries. He emphasised that Montenegro highly values numerous aspects of the new approach in the enlargement process.

During the discussion, it was emphasised that enlargement is a logical step forward for Europe, and candidate countries will, for the first time, have their voice officially heard within an advisory body of the European Union. They will have representatives in the EESC and will be able to share ideas with EU colleagues on policies concerning everyone.

We highly appreciate these aspects of gradual integration. We do not see them as a replacement for EU membership but rather as a way for both Montenegro and the European Union to prepare for enlargement. The new Growth Plan could change everything for the Western Balkan countries, as it has the potential to bring benefits of EU membership through economic growth even before the countries of the region reach it, stated the Prime Minister at the session, to which he was invited by EESC President Oliver Röpke.

This is truly a historic moment for this committee. This initiative has been embraced as an example for all. Our house is now your house from today onwards. Thank you for being here, and special thanks to Prime Ministers Spajić and Rama for joining us to formalize this beginning, added Röpke.

Prime Minister Spajić emphasised that the good results achieved in the first 100 days of work demonstrate the Government's serious commitment to the EU path, and this commitment can only be improved. There are no shortcuts, only a clear ambition to continue progress through dedicated work.

The priority of our Government is for all reforms we implement, whether desirable or unpopular, to be supported by our citizens and civil society, as the primary advocate for citizens and a corrective factor in shaping and implementing public policies in a democratic society. Civil society will be our main partner in our efforts to ensure a European future, Spajić stated.

During the session, the necessity of enlargement as a response to the geopolitical situation was discussed. Therefore, it is essential for candidate countries to gradually align themselves with the EU.

In this context, it was emphasised that strengthening civil society and social dialogue is crucial.

Montenegro, in preparations for implementing the Europe Now 1 programme, has shown how to conduct social and civil dialogue with all partners in a true European way. This is the method by which the 44th Government works; we try to resolve important issues through achieving broad social consensus. We want to be part of the club of European countries that share the same values, said the Prime Minister.

He concluded that work on Chapters 23 and 24 will be a top priority, with which every Cabinet session will commence, not only due to EU integration but also because without strengthening the rule of law, there can be no strengthening of the economy and achieving the European level.
