Gjeloshaj: We have unlocked the door to EU membership

Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Policy and Minister of Economic Development Nik Gjeloshaj welcomed the provisional closure of Negotiating Chapter 8 – Competition Policy at the Intergovernmental Conference in Brussels, highlighting that it represents another important step for Montenegro on its path towards full membership in the European Union.
Gjeloshaj emphasised that the Ministry of Economic Development has made a direct and measurable contribution to the closure of a record seven negotiating chapters, confirming a high level of professionalism, responsibility and commitment to the European agenda.
Today’s result is not a coincidence, but a confirmation of the dedicated work of institutions and people who have worked diligently for months to meet European standards. We have unlocked the door to Montenegro’s accession to the European Union, and now it is up to us to continue along this path decisively and without delay, Gjeloshaj said.
He particularly praised the team of the Ministry of Economic Development, which, as he stated, demonstrated that expertise, responsibility and efficiency deliver concrete results in the most important state processes.
I am proud of the Ministry of Economic Development team, which has fulfilled every obligation from start to finish, with quality and within the envisaged deadlines. These achievements belong to the people whose knowledge and work have contributed to bringing Montenegro one step closer to EU membership, Gjeloshaj stressed.
Competition policy is one of the key pillars of a modern market economy, as it ensures equal conditions for all market participants, encourages innovation, attracts investment and strengthens the competitiveness of the economy. At the same time, it contributes to greater choice, improved quality and more affordable prices of products and services for citizens, creating sustainable and dynamic economic development in line with European Union standards.
