Government caps fuel prices: Diesel to increase by only 4 cents instead of 31
At today’s telephone session, the Montenegrin Cabinet adopted maximum fuel price caps and reduced the pricing calculation period from 15 to 7 days.
The measure was introduced following intensive consultations and detailed analyses with the competent authorities in the fields of energy and finance, as well as representatives of oil companies and EU experts.
Despite the significant loss of state revenues on this basis, as highlighted by the Ministry of Finance, the Government opted for the maximum possible measure in order to protect the interests of citizens and the economy.
In practical terms, this means that the price of diesel, which accounts for 86% of total consumption, will increase by only 4 cents instead of the projected 31 cents. As of Tuesday, the price of diesel will be EUR 1.54 instead of EUR 1.81, while a litre of petrol will cost EUR 1.51 instead of EUR 1.68.
With these measures, citizens of Montenegro will continue to pay fuel prices that remain among the most affordable in Europe.
In this way, not only has the increase in fuel prices been prevented, but also the rise in the prices of other goods that depend on petroleum product prices.
