Government of Montenegro declares 1 and 2 September days of mourning

Following the tragic event that occurred in Danilovgrad, the Government of Montenegro, based on the consent obtained from its members, adopted a Decision on 31 August 2026 declaring Tuesday, 1 September, and Wednesday, 2 September 2026, days of mourning.

During the days of mourning, in accordance with the Law on State Symbols and the Statehood Day of Montenegro, flags will be flown at half-mast on all buildings of state authorities, local self-government bodies and public institutions.

In accordance with the Decision, no public, cultural or entertainment programmes will be held in public places during the days of mourning, while music will not be played in hospitality establishments.

Electronic and other media are required to adapt their programming to mark the days of mourning.

In view of the declared days of mourning, the school year in Danilovgrad will begin on 3 September 2026.

The Prime Minister and all members of the Government of Montenegro extend their deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives.
