Ibrahimović in Bratislava: Confirmed continuation of dynamic cooperation, Slovakia strongly supports Montenegro’s EU membership

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović paid an official visit to the Slovak Republic, where he met with the highest state officials, including President of the Parliament Richard Raši, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Juraj Blanár, and Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs Marián Kéry.

During the meetings, both sides confirmed their readiness to continue strengthening bilateral ties, underlining that Slovakia remains Montenegro’s reliable ally and partner in achieving its foremost foreign policy priority – membership in the European Union.

In talks with Slovak Foreign Minister Blanár, the friendly relations and partnership between Montenegro and Slovakia were emphasized, grounded in close historical and cultural ties. Discussions also focused on joint initiatives within NATO and opportunities for further enhancement of bilateral relations, with particular attention to the importance of Montenegro’s swift accession to the EU. Ibrahimović expressed gratitude for Slovakia’s continuous and strong support, reflected in the high level of public backing among Slovak citizens for Montenegro’s EU membership.

He informed his counterpart about Montenegro’s determination to maintain momentum in the negotiation process, aiming to be ready for membership by 2028. Blanár commended Montenegro’s progress, stressing its leading role in the region and reaffirming Slovakia’s readiness to continue providing strong political and expert support on Montenegro’s EU path.

In his meeting with President of the Parliament Raši, discussions centered on strengthening parliamentary dialogue as a key mechanism for advancing Montenegro’s EU accession negotiations.

During the talks with Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs Kéry, the importance of the legislature’s role was highlighted in adopting key reform laws and ensuring broad consensus on the European agenda, recognized as the country’s top national priority.

Throughout the meetings, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening political dialogue and noted the significant potential for deepening bilateral cooperation. Special emphasis was placed on the fields of economy, tourism, digitalization, and cybersecurity. The importance of establishing direct contacts between business communities and regular air connections was also underlined, as crucial steps toward intensifying overall relations.
