As part of his working visit to the Republic of North Macedonia, Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović met with Speaker of the North Macedonian Assembly Afrim Gaši.
The two officials discussed further ways to improve bilateral relations between Montenegro and North Macedonia, with particular emphasis on the importance of parliamentary diplomacy, strengthening inter-institutional cooperation and enhancing political dialogue at all levels.
European integration was also a key focus of the discussions, as a shared strategic priority of the two countries and an important prerequisite for the long-term stability, prosperity and development of the region. Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović presented Montenegro’s progress in the accession negotiations with the EU, stressing that a credible European perspective for the Western Balkans is essential for maintaining confidence in the European project and encouraging reform processes.

Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of a strong parliamentary dimension of European integration, given the role of legislative institutions in adopting reform measures, strengthening the rule of law and ensuring broad public support for the EU accession process.
The two officials also exchanged views on current regional and European issues, noting that stability, good-neighbourly relations, mutual respect and constructive political dialogue are of particular importance for the further development of the Western Balkans.
The meeting reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening good political relations through concrete institutional cooperation, with a clear message that the European future of the region should be the result of joint efforts, responsibility and mutual support.
