The Embassy of Montenegro in the Kingdom of Denmark was opened in Copenhagen earlier today.

At the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ervin Ibrahimović stated that the opening of the Montenegrin Embassy in Copenhagen is an important step towards expanding our diplomatic network, as well as an encouragement for further improvement of bilateral relations between the two countries.

Today holds a special place and an indelible mark in our diplomatic history, as for the first time we have a permanent representation in Denmark and diplomatic presence in this part of Europe, Ibrahimović noted, adding that the relations between the two countries are based on shared values of peace, democracy, human rights, and cooperation.

He particularly highlighted the role of the diaspora, which serves as a bridge of friendship, contributing to strengthening ties between the two peoples. He also pointed out the significance of opening the diplomatic mission in Denmark in the context of Montenegro's European path, considering that Denmark will take over the presidency of the EU Council in the second half of 2025.

This is both a symbolic and strategic moment. The support of partners will be crucial in achieving our goal of becoming an EU member by 2028.

He thanked his Danish counterpart for attending today's ceremony.

This is yet another confirmation of our shared commitment to cooperation and the affirmation of Montenegro's European future.

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen stated that the opening of the Montenegrin Embassy in Copenhagen is extremely significant in terms of further strengthening relations and cooperation. He also emphasised strong support for Montenegro's European path.

You can count on Denmark's full support in the upcoming period. The goal of joining the EU by 2028 is ambitious but achievable with the commitment to reforms that you are showing. The opening of Montenegro's representative office in Copenhagen will contribute to intensifying our contacts, as well as cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, said Rasmussen.
