Samir Orahovac, former Acting Director of the Cybersecurity Agency, participated in the eighth Western Balkans Digital Summit. During a panel discussion on cybersecurity and creating a secure digital environment, he underscored Montenegro’s substantial progress in enhancing its legal and institutional framework for greater digital security.

He noted that, within its mandate, the Agency had initiated expert oversight of the implementation of information security measures by key and important entities.

“Our goal is not simply to verify whether key and important entities comply with their legal obligations. It is equally important for us to understand the challenges they face and provide support in improving their security and resilience to cyber threats,” Orahovac emphasised.

He stressed that Montenegro attaches great importance to cooperation with regional partners, recognising that a secure and reliable digital space is a shared interest of all Western Balkan countries.

He outlined Montenegro’s key cybersecurity priorities as further developing institutional capacities and strengthening cyber resilience through professional supervision of information security measures, enhancing coordination and operational cooperation with domestic and international partners during cyberattacks, and increasing public awareness of the importance of information security.

The eighth Western Balkans Digital Summit is being held in Herceg Novi, organised by the Ministry of Public Administration under the auspices of the Government of Montenegro, in partnership with the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), and as part of Montenegro’s chairmanship of the Berlin Process. MTEL is the event’s general sponsor.
