PM Krivokapić meets with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia

Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs.

Prime Minister Krivokapić said that he sees Minister Rinkēvičs' visit as a strong confirmation of the friendship between the two countries. The Prime Minister assessed that the relations between Montenegro and Latvia are characterized by partnership, openness, and continuous mutual support within bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

The Prime Minister thanked Latvia for its continuous support in the field of EU integration, stressing Montenegro's unquestionable commitment to meeting benchmarks and conditions for EU membership.

More than 80 percent of citizens are in favor of Montenegro being the first next member of the European Union, Krivokapić said.

Speaking about global processes in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, Prime Minister Krivokapić emphasised the importance of the results achieved by the Government of Montenegro in the past year, concluding that the new administration has managed to turn the country's biggest economic downturn into the biggest economic growth, whose benefits citizens already feel.

Latvian Foreign Minister Rinkēvičs, expressing hope that Montenegro will succeed in closing the most challenging negotiating chapters 23 and 24 as soon as possible, conveyed messages of understanding of social transition and support for Montenegro's path to the European Union. Reaffirming that Latvia highly values political relations with Montenegro, Minister Rinkēvičs said that he was sure that the cooperation between the two countries would continue to develop to the mutual benefit and satisfaction.
