PM Krivokapić's statement on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić pointed out that the most recent examples of violence against women in Montenegro indicate a long and unbroken chain of responsibility.

From the link related to preventive action, to the one related to the judiciary and the executive - it is obvious that the overall mechanisms of elimination and protection from violence have failed.

The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is an opportunity to more decisively and openly address verbal, psychological or physical violence and the consequences that, sometimes irreparably, they leave behind. Persistent respect for the principles of gender equality, emancipation of women and their inclusion at all levels and in all segments of society, requires additional efforts from legislative, judicial, executive, managerial, social and educational institutions.

It is time to respond decisively and in a civilized manner to every violence and discrimination against any woman, conscientiously using rule of law mechanisms.

Proving that we are not a society of untouchables, fighting for a fairer, richer and more prosperous state of social equality, we will also fight for Montenegro without violence. Additional education, more attentive social protection, legal remedies and their timely and consistent application, I am sure, will completely heal our society and fully provide security, reputation and dignity to women and children, and all citizens, regardless of gender, age, religion, nation or ideological orientation, said the Prime Minister.
