Prime Minister Milojko Spajić met today in Berlin with Germany’s Minister of State for Europe Gunther Krichbaum. The meeting conveyed a clear message: European Union enlargement is inevitable, and Montenegro is the first among the candidate countries ready to turn its opportunity into concrete results.

Germany’s clear stance on Montenegro’s EU membership is not only an encouragement for our administration, but also confirmation from one of Europe’s most important political centres that our efforts are worthwhile, Prime Minister Spajić stated.

Prime Minister Spajić and Minister for Europe Gunther Krichbaum discussed current developments, highlighting the importance of closing five negotiating chapters at the recently held Intergovernmental Conference in Brussels.

The meeting also addressed the dynamics of further chapter closures in 2026, with confidence expressed that all branches of government – just as in the past two years – will remain fully aligned with Montenegro’s strategic interest, namely achieving full-fledged membership by 2028.

On this path, Krichbaum said, Germany stands firmly with Montenegro and is ready, building on excellent bilateral relations and cooperation within NATO, to support Montenegro in achieving this key foreign policy objective.
