Police Directorate achieves significant results in the fight against organised crime and high-level corruption

The National Council for the Fight against High-Level Corruption commends the work of the Police Directorate in the fight against organised crime and high-level corruption, which has achieved significant results in the previous period, it was a message from the Council's thematic session entitled "Legal preconditions, human and technical capacities and organisation of the Police Directorate in detecting high-level corruption, with reference to the work of the Special Police Department, Criminal Police/SBPOK and the findings of the SOCTA''.

The thematic session was organised in order to discuss the challenges faced by the Ministry of the Interior and the Police Directorate in the fight against high-level corruption and organised crime.

The session discussed legal preconditions, personnel and technical capacities, as well as the work of the Police Directorate in detecting high-level corruption and organised crime, with reference to the work of the Special Police Department, the Service for Fighting Organised Crime (SBPOK) and the findings of the SOCTA. Also, the Council discussed access to data of importance for financial investigations, which is in the possession of other bodies in the country and abroad, emphasising the importance of international cooperation in that sense. The issue of financial motivation - salaries, allowances and other benefits of employees in the Police, who work on cases of high-level corruption and organised crime, was also discussed at the session.

Based on today's discussion, the Council will send recommendations to the Government regarding budget planning, long-term planning of technical capacity and equipment development, planning of further education, training of members of the Police Directorate, communication and cooperation with other state administration bodies.

The session was attended by representatives of the Ministry of the Interior and the Police Directorate:  Zoran Miljanić, State Secretary, Rade Milošević, State Secretary, Zoran Brđanin, Director of the Police Directorate, Dejan Knežević, Acting Assistant Director of the Service for Fighting Organised Crime and Saša Mašković, Acting Assistant Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit. Representatives of the National Council for the Fight against High-Level Corruption also attedend the session:  Stevo Muk, member of the Council, Milan Popović, member of the Council, Vanja Ćalović Marković, Head of the Expert Team (via video link) and Ana Rašović, Secretary of the Council (via video link).
