Prime Minister Dritan Abazović addressed the gathered heads of missions at the Regional OSCE Meeting in Budva, where he highlighted the historic achievements made in the battle against organised crime and corruption within a little over a year.

Prime Minister Abazović noted, "We have achieved historic results in the fight against organised crime and corruption in just over a year. High-ranking officials in the Judiciary, Prosecution, and Police have been held accountable. However, much work lies ahead."

He further acknowledged the significant role played by EUROPOL in gathering evidence against drug cartels that had wreaked havoc in Montenegro for an extended period, emphasising their effective dismantling through successful operations.

Speaking about the ongoing battle against crime, Abazović made it clear that actions would not cease, not only in curbing cigarette smuggling but also in prosecuting cases related to human trafficking. He underscored that the arm of justice would continue to reach far and wide.

"Justice remains a branch of government that awaits rejuvenation. Support for the efforts of the Prosecution, Police Administration, and the National Security Agency remains crucial," Abazović emphasised.

Discussing the government's foreign policy, Prime Minister Abazović affirmed its complete alignment with EU policy regarding the Russian Federation's aggression against Ukraine. He added that Montenegro, based on its population, had received the highest percentage of Ukrainian nationals among regional countries.

"We are the only state in the region without unresolved issues with our neighbours, and this will always be our policy. Montenegro supports the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina under the auspices of the EU. Any positive developments in the region reflect positively on Montenegro," Prime Minister Abazović remarked regarding regional matters.

He expressed gratitude for the contribution made by the OSCE through its programmes in the fight against human trafficking and the promotion of the rule of law.

The meeting was also attended by the OSCE Secretary General, Helga Schmid.
