Radulović and Sziijarto: Joint European future of friends and allies is unquestionable, dynamizing economic cooperation between Montenegro and Hungary

“Montenegro and Hungary are developing constructive bilateral cooperation to which significant contribution gives regular political dialogue on highest and high level, confirmed by today’s presence of Head of Hungarian diplomacy Peter Sziijarto to Monteengro, after my official visit to Budapest this winter”, Minister of Foreign Affairs Đorđe Radulović stated on the joint press conference.

Head of Montenegrin diplomacy stressed that Hungary is proven friend of our country, that continuously provide us with strong political and expert support, from very start of reform and integration processes. “EU is the first and last word of every meeting, and we confirmed our commitment to the European path by accepting new methodology in negotiations” he stated. As he emphasized, Montenegro expects further support of EU partners to the achieving of the most important goal for us, through further intensifying of negotiation process.

Minister Radulović specially thanked to collocutor for Hungarian support from beginning of pandemic COVID-19, with an observation that solidarity is crucial in the challenging time we are witnessing. In that regard, he welcomed agreement on opening borders with vaccination confirmation or negative PCR test, thus harmonized Agreement between two Governments on Mutual Recognition of Immunization Certificates, while apprising this initiative as positive input for following tourism season.  

“Renewing of air-line on relation Podgorica – Budapest, starting from May 12^th, as announced by Wizz-air, will be additional incentive for bilateral cooperation in the tourism field”, Minister Radulović stressed. Collocutors agreed on holding the meeting of planned inter – sector group consisted of representatives of bodies in charge for economic cooperation with State Secretaries in Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, in June this year. As appraised, the meeting will contribute to the identification of concrete areas of cooperation, as well as exchange of experience in reference to functioning of economic diplomacy, bearing in mind its importance in dynamizing trade development. 

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Sziijarto stressed the significance of further commitment of Union for enlargement process, while repeating undoubtable devotedness of his country to activities in the Western Balkans’ region.

“Events in the neighborhood are very important for us, and we will continue to back your European aspirations” he stated.

Head of Hungarian diplomacy highlighted the need of adoption of clear and concrete decisions in Brussels, that will confirm that this part of Europe is not and must not be forgotten in any case, which particularly is related to the importance of concretization of European policies when it comes to Western Balkans’ integration.

“Hungarian investors are present in Montenegro and we are determined to sustain that trend”, Minister Sziijarto stated, while adding that his government empowers position of its businessman, through concrete support programs. He also stressed the importance of strengthening of bilateral cooperation in this regard, aiming at dynamization of economic recovery and growth, specially having in mind current pandemic.

When it comes to other cooperation areas of joint interest, ministers stressed on importance of recent holding of third bilateral consultations, and expressed the belief that text of Memorandum on Understanding and Cooperation between diplomatic academies of two ministries of foreign affairs will be soon harmonized and signed. Minister Radulović added that we have solid legal framework for improving mechanisms of cooperation in the areas of education, culture and defense, as important topics for interstate communication.

Collocutors expressed the pleasure of so far cooperation on multilateral level, particularly in context of appropriation of support to the candidacies of two states for membership in UN bodies, as well as within numerous regional initiatives. They also talked about immunization process of citizens in their countries, and the planes foreign policy planes for the following period.
