Safer Internet Day is celebrated annually in February to promote positive and responsible online behavior and raise awareness of safe internet use.

The internet offers a wide range of learning opportunities and helps us acquire knowledge and skills. However, it also poses potential risks that we must be aware of. It is especially important to educate young people about safe behavior in the digital world to protect themselves from potential threats. Cyberbullying, data misuse, internet fraud, and malicious content are some of the dangers that exist on the internet.

Today is the right time to remind users of the fundamental rules of internet safety and data protection:

  • you should use high-quality antivirus software that includes a spam filter, firewall, and real-time protection against online threats
  • it is crucial to keep your operating system, programs, and apps updated while you are online
  • do not open links or files from unknown senders that you receive via e-mail
  • it is highly recommended to use different passwords for your online accounts, and ensure that passwords are a combination of numbers, special characters, lowercase and uppercase letters.
  • use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) while connecting to public networks to ensure the privacy and security of your connection.
  • regularly back up your data to prevent any loss
  • when downloading apps for your smart devices, make sure to download them from trusted sources such as Google Play, App Store, AppGallery, and similar platforms
  • lastly, refrain from highlighting any private information such as your phone number or address on your social media profiles.

By working together to raise awareness, we can make the internet a safer and better place.
