Diplomatic Relations Overview

The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia officially recognized Montenegro on the 10th of June 2011, and the diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on the same day.

At it's session of the 23rd of July 2014, the Government of Montenegro made decision to open the Embassy to the African Union in Addis Ababa, with the purpose of establishing and further developing relations with the African countries, as well as broadening the scope of Montenegro's foreign policy strategy - not omitting Africa. The planned Mission of Montenegro to African Union had been intended to serve as the diplomatic mission to Ethiopia (as well as to several other African countries). This initiative, however, was later abandoned for the time being.

The two states, at this moment, don't have an adequately developed political dialogue. No bilateral treaties have so far been signed, while the data on foreign trade shows the existence of an undeveloped exchange of goods and services.
