Brigadier General Miodrag Vuksanovic
Brigadier General Miodrag Vuksanovic began his military career in 1993 by enrolling at the Army Military Academy of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in Belgrade. He was promoted to the rank of Second Lieutenant in the field of Electronic Reconnaissance and Electronic Countermeasures on September 27, 1997, after which he was assigned to the 350th Center for Electronic Reconnaissance and Electronic Countermeasures in Podgorica.
Throughout his career, he has served in various command and staff positions, including Platoon Commander, Company Commander, Head of the Analytics Section, and Deputy Commander in Electronic Reconnaissance and Electronic Countermeasures units; Chief of the Analytics Office and Chief of the Intelligence and Reconnaissance Department (G-2) of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Montenegro; Commander of the Training Center of the Armed Forces of Montenegro; Chief of the Command and Operations Center of the General Staff; and Head of the Directorate for Strategic Defense Planning within the Defense Policy and Planning Directorate of the Ministry of Defense.
As Head of the Directorate for Strategic Defense Planning, he was responsible for coordinating the strategic-level defense planning process, drafting strategic and doctrinal documents and plans, and aligning Montenegro’s national defense planning with NATO’s defense planning process. He led teams responsible for drafting Montenegro’s current National Security Strategy, the Strategic Defense Review, and the Long-Term Development Plan of the Armed Forces of Montenegro for the period 2019–2028. He was also a member of the drafting team for the Defense Strategy of Montenegro.
From August 2020 to September 2021, Brigadier General Vuksanovic served as the Watch Director of the Comprehensive Crisis and Operations Management Centre (CCOMC) at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE/ACO) in Mons, Belgium. Following this assignment, he was appointed as Montenegro’s National Military Representative to SHAPE.
On 3 June 2025, the Defense and Security Council promoted Colonel Miodrag Vuksanovic to the rank of Brigadier General and appointed him as the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Montenegro.
He completed Command and General Staff education in 2010 at the US Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC) in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, graduating with top marks. In 2016, he graduated from the US Army War College (AWC) in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and earned a Master’s degree in Strategic Studies. Based on his academic performance, he was recognized as a Distinguished Graduate.
Throughout his career, Brigadier General Vuksanovic has completed a large number of international training programs, with a focus on military intelligence, security, and counterterrorism.

In addition to his international training, he completed the Professional Development Program for Civil Servants in Strategic Planning, organized by the Human Resources Administration and the General Secretariat of the Government of Montenegro.
He participated in the ISAF mission in Afghanistan from September 2011 to March 2012 as a staff officer in the intelligence section of the Regional Command North Headquarters. For his performance during the mission, he was commended by the Commander of Regional Command North.
He is fluent in English (STANAG 6001 level 3333) and has working knowledge of French.
Brigadier General Miodrag Vuksanovic is married and has two children.
