"For centuries, Montenegro has, as it does today, cherished the values on which modern multi-confessional societies rest. This is our legacy, the essence of Montenegro's existence, but also the basis of its future," State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture Dražen Blažić said.
He added that the cultural heritage of every state, including Montenegro, is the best testimony of the history and culture inherited from previous generations and that the state has a responsibility to protect and affirm the inherited cultural values of all cultural assets in its territory, in accordance with the Constitution of Montenegro.
"The Government of Montenegro has shown that the protection of cultural assets is an obligation that has no alternative. Therefore, the protection and preservation of cultural assets and the transfer of these assets to future generations, in an authentic form, is unquestionably the priority of any responsible state and cultural policy," Blažić stressed.
He emphasised that the Law on freedom of religion or belief and the legal status of religious communities created a precondition for significantly greater financial allocations for the preservation of the authenticity and integrity of religious objects that have the status of cultural asset.
"In the past few decades, the religious objects have been exposed to significant changes, often with worrying changes to the authenticity and integrity of the cultural asset. That is why, as a responsible Government, we want to contribute, together with everyone who is willing to do so, to the preservation of our cultural heritage, so that it can be authentically passed on to future generations," said Blažić, explaining that this is exactly what the new Law on freedom of religion enables.
Furthermore, he stated that in the family, as the nucleus of every society, as well as of Montenegrin society, we can have different opinions and views on some things, but that in today's Montenegro it is not and should not be a reason for division, noting that the freedom and diversity are the ideas that unite us.
"It is an expression of maturity, principles and tradition characteristic for Montenegro, which for centuries, just like today, has been the home of all its citizens, in which there is place for everyone," Blažić said.
