Abazović and Novaković Đurović pay a visit to ECHR

Prime Minister Dritan Abazović and Coordinator of the Ministry of European Affairs Ana Novaković Đurović met President of the European Court of Human Rights Siofra O'Leary.

The officials agreed that the proper and full application of the Convention on Human Rights and the practice of the Strasbourg Court in the national framework is a prerequisite for the establishment of the rule of law.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasised that the existence of an effective national legal remedy, such as a constitutional appeal, is threatened by the non-appointment of judges of the Constitutional Court.

PM Abazović said that the Government of Montenegro would like to increase citizens' trust in Montenegrin courts, which enjoy less trust than the Strasbourg Court.

Citizens deserve to have access to justice in their mother country. As we started with the reforms in the Prosecutor's Office, which are already yielding results, I believe that we are on the right path to reform the judicial system together as a society, the Prime Minister said.

In this sense, Prime Minister Abazović pointed out that the expertise of all relevant international institutions would play a significant role in strengthening capacities.
