DPM Ivanović receives Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye Barış Kalkavan for a farewell visit

Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović received the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Montenegro, Mr. Barış Kalkavan, for a farewell visit.
Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović thanked Ambassador Kalkavan for his dedicated and committed work during his mandate in Podgorica, emphasizing that relations between Montenegro and the Republic of Türkiye were further strengthened during this period through intensive political dialogue and more than 60 signed interstate agreements. It was highlighted that the two countries nurture strong friendship and partnership, both bilaterally and within NATO. The discussion reaffirmed Montenegro’s full commitment to further deepening cooperation with the Republic of Türkiye in areas of mutual interest, including political dialogue, economic cooperation, investments, healthcare, education, and culture. Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović stressed that the isolated incidents from October do not reflect the true image of Montenegro and that the decision on the temporary suspension of the visa-free regime is of a purely preventive and security-related nature, accompanied by an efficient visa procedure during the transitional period.
Ambassador Kalkavan emphasized the importance of investments and the growing number of Turkish tourists visiting Montenegro, noting that these activities further strengthen the bilateral economic and cultural ties between the two countries. He also announced the arrival of the new Ambassador, who will continue to actively work on deepening cooperation and improving the friendly relations between Montenegro and the Republic of Türkiye.
Montenegro and Türkiye will continue to enhance their cooperation through upcoming high-level visits, including activities aimed at establishing a High-Level Cooperation Council between the two governments.
Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović wished Ambassador Kalkavan success in his further professional and personal endeavours, expressing confidence that bilateral relations between the two countries will continue to advance in the spirit of friendship, constructive dialogue, and mutual respect.
