ITALY – Milena Šofranac Ljubojević, a career diplomat with significant experience

The idea that demands time and strategic view regarding professionalization of our diplomatic-consular network was transfused into a promise made at the beginning of Foreign Affairs Minister Đorđe Radulović’s term, receives concrete outlines with first appointments of career diplomats.

The attitude that the state should be represented by trained civil servants who have multiple years of diplomatic experience, is proven by a biography of the new Ambassador of Montenegro to the Republic of Italy.

Milena Šofranac Ljubojević is a career diplomat, who started her professional engagement in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2010. She acquired a Master's degree in Political Sciences in Rome at the Faculty of political sciences of the “La Sapienza” University, which is one of the most reputable universities in Europe.

Before her appointment as the Ambassador of Montenegro to Italy, since 2019. Šofranac Ljubojević was the Director for OSCE and Council of Europe in the Directorate General for Multilateral Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She acquired multiple years of experience as the II Secretary in the Embassy of Montenegro to the Kingdom of Belgium, from where Montenegro covers the Kingdom of Netherlands and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg on a non-resident level which requires bilateral, political, and consular cooperation with three Benelux countries, as well as intensive contacts with Montenegrin diaspora communities.

She also worked as the II Secretary in the NATO Directorate  General for NATO and defense policy from 2011. to 2015. in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, and was a member of the National Negotiation Group for the EU accession process, as well as the Secretary of the workgroup for Chapter 31 – Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union.

At the beginning of his term, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Đorđe Radulović promised that he will work on building a responsible and professional diplomatic network that will be at service to all citizens. By appointing new ambassadors of Montenegro, he fulfills the given promise.
