Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović assessed that the decision of EU Member State ambassadors to establish a working group for the preparation of Montenegro’s Accession Treaty represents the most serious and clearest political signal so far that the EU accession process is in its final, decisive stage.

The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that this decision represents recognition of the results Montenegro has achieved in the European integration process, as well as confirmation that Montenegro’s European perspective is today an irreversible political reality rather than a declarative ambition.

The decision of EU Member State ambassadors to establish a working group for the preparation of the Accession Treaty with Montenegro represents the clearest political signal so far that the accession process is in its final, decisive stage. This is recognition of the results Montenegro has achieved, but also confirmation that the European perspective of our country has become an irreversible political fact, not a declarative ambition, Ivanović stated.

He added that Montenegro and the European Union are now entering the final stage of a process that defines the future of the country and the region.
