Ministers Radulović and Szijjártó: Forthcoming visit to Budapest – confirmation of friendship between Montenegro and Hungary

Minister of Foreign Affairs Đorđe Radulović spoke today by phone with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Péter Szijjártó. In focus of the discussion was the upcoming visit of Minister Radulović to Hungary, development of bilateral relations, as well as consideration of opportunities regarding procurement and distribution of vaccines in fight against COVID-19.

Minister Radulović expressed the pleasure regarding the forthcoming visit to Hungary that will take place at the end of February, assessing that the visit represents the confirmation of friendly relations of two countries, as well as the opportunity to explore the potential areas for further enhancing of bilateral cooperation.

Minister Siarto highlighted that Montenegro and Hungary are continuously committed to development of fruitful relations, that are strengthened with Euro-Atlantic values, as well as with undisputed support to our country on its path towards EU.

Interlocutors also exchanged their views on the epidemiological situation and, in that sense, considered options for procurement and distribution of vaccines.

Minister Radulović informed his Hungarian counterpart that the immunization in Montenegro has not commenced yet, therefore, the support by Hungary regarding the procurement of certain doses of vaccines would be of utmost importance. In that context, Minister Siarto offered to Montenegro possibility to transport a certain amount of vaccines by their airplanes.  

Hungarian Foreign Minister stated that they are negotiating with different producers, and that if some amount of vaccines appears to be unnecessary, Hungary would direct it towards our country.

Minister Radulović thanked on Hungary’s eagerness to help in transportation and procurement of vaccines, assessing that it would represent remarkable gesture and firm message that Europe is standing by us even in these challenging times. On that line, Foreign Minister of Montenegro highlighted that only with collective efforts we could overcome the consequences of pandemics, on principles of solidarity and cooperation with our European partners.
