Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić hosted today a farewell visit by the Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church, Apostolic Nuncio to Montenegro, residing in Sarajevo, Monsignor Luigi Pezzuto.

Prime Minister Krivokapić thanked Nuncio Pezzuto for everything he has done to improve the overall relations between Montenegro and the Holy See.

The Prime Minister said that Montenegro is a country that is a religiously and nationally heterogeneous community, and that the current Government is committed to the full valorisation of the spiritual and cultural tradition of all religious communities. PM Krivokapić emphasised the importance of representing the Holy See in Montenegro on a resident basis and expressed hope that this would happen in the coming period, and that the seat of the Apostolic Nunciature would be in Podgorica.

The relations between our two countries are characterized by sincere cooperation, intensive and constructive political dialogue and friendship. Montenegro is ready, and the Holy See, through your efforts and commitment, has shown its readiness to further strengthen our bilateral relations, in which your deep trace remains indelible. I believe that your successor will continue to cooperate with Montenegro with the same enthusiasm, affection and respect that you have shown towards Montenegro all these years, Krivokapić said.

Monsignor Luigi Pezzuto thanked for the warm welcome and said that even after the ambassadorial mission in Montenegro, he would continue to pray for the peace in Montenegro that everyone needs. He emphasised that it is the duty of politics and politicians to make decisions of general interest and to keep in mind the common good, but that, unfortunately, very often, selfish interests come to the fore.

I did everything to contribute to peace. Peace is a fundamental value and without it nothing else can be achieved. Also, differences are a treasure and we should talk about peace and differences as the most important values. However, everything takes time and the whole world, including Montenegro, is in a process that cannot happen overnight, Nuncio Pezzuto concluded.
