Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres congratulated Prime Minister Dritan Abazović on his appointment.

Your Excellency,

I take this opportunity to extend my cordial congratulations and best wishes on the occasion of your appointment as Prime Minister of Montenegro.

In the face of the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the climate crisis and the devastating consequences of armed conflict, the United Nations remains a steadfast partner in support of Montenegro's aspirations, including through the United Nations Delegation in Podgorica.

Today's global challenges can only be successfully addressed through cooperation and dialogue, as they call for inclusive and global efforts. Montenegro strongly supports multilateralism, which we highly appreciate.

I appreciate your commitment to sustainable development, environmental protection and the well-being of children and young people. As the new UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for the period 2023-2027 is finalized, your leadership will be crucial to ensuring an even closer partnership between Montenegro and the United Nations.

Moreover, I take this opportunity to appreciate Montenegro's progress in the area of women's political participation, and encourage your leaders to accelerate progress, including the progress in the area of gender equality in government and other senior positions.

I wish you every success in performing your important duties and I look forward to working closely with you, your Government and the people of Montenegro in reaching solutions to issues of common concern.

Your Excellency, please accept the assurances of my highest consideration.

António Guterres
