Minister Vučinović at TVCG: The most damage from earthquakes on buildings over fifty years old

Montenegro, Podgorica (23 January
2018)-- The Government's Commission for the assessment of damage from natural
disasters visited the most endangered municipalities of the Northern Region
affected by the recent earthquake and found that most damages are on buildings
that were built fifty years ago,
highlitened the Minister without Portfolio in the Government of
Montenegro and the President of the Commission Marija Vučinović while making a
guest appearance on National Broadcaster TVCG.
Minister Vučinović reminded that
the Government of Montenegro has committed 190,000 euros to repair the most
urgent consequences of the earthquake, pointing out that the Government's
Commission for the assessment of damage from natural disasters, which received
3,500 claims for damage assessment, must first have a report of the damage
assessment by the local Commission to respond adequately.
"It's information from the
scene. Still, local commissions for assessing damage from natural disasters are
visiting areas, visited by families who have suffered damage. That's a huge
number of requests. Most of them are in the Municipality of Plav. According to
the information they expect about 1. 400 -1 500 requests, and in other
municipalities about 700. Therefore, the work of the Commission is going in the
way that the requests that arrive in the Government or to the Commission for assessment of damage
from natural disasters within the Government itself, must have a report of the
estimated damage by the local commission. "- underlined Minister
Vučinović.
The Minister also stated that the
Government made the decision that the Commission for Damage Aherefore, we must
understand that this is the help that the Government Commission refers to
individuals or households that need this assistance. "As I said, this
urgent help that is being provided at this moment is really the help most
needed by the households who suffered the most damage, the households that had
to move out of their homes due to damage. "- emphasised Minister.
The Minister also stated that the
Government had decided that the Commission for Damage Assessment receives
feedback on the spending of funds and Commission would once again visit
vulnerable households to check whether the funds were intentionally spent.
Speaking of expectations
regarding when field teams will complete their work and have accurate
information on the number of applications received, those who have been established
and will be assisted later, the Minister stated that, given the large number of
requests, the local commission must visit all these households and as soon as
they instruct, the Government's commission will do its part of the job.
