Anniversary reception marking the Ninth Anniversary of the Establishment of the Western Balkans Fund

A reception marking the ninth anniversary of the establishment of the Western Balkans Fund (WBF) was held in Tirana on 17 September 2026. On behalf of the Montenegrin Presidency, the reception was opened by Vana Đurašević, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Montenegro in Tirana. The event brought together representatives of the diplomatic community, institutions and organisations, the Fund’s partners, regional leaders, as well as participants of the Regional Academy on Dialogue and the Culture of Cooperation.

In a message delivered on behalf of the Montenegrin Presidency, it was emphasised that over the past nine years, the Western Balkans Fund has evolved into a known regional platform for connecting the civil society and public sectors, building trust, and strengthening regional cooperation, with the aim of delivering tangible benefits for the citizens of the Western Balkans.

It was underscored that Montenegro views regional cooperation as a strategic priority, and that a commitment to regional cooperation and European integration is of crucial importance for protecting societies and building a safer and more resilient region.

As part of this year’s Presidency of the Fund, Montenegro continues to actively advocate for achieving concrete results, enhancing the Fund’s visibility, and advancing the principle of regional ownership.
