Progress in the rule of law is Government's priority

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of European Affairs Jovana Marović met with Ambassador of Slovenia to Montenegro Gregor Presker. Visible progress in the rule of law is a priority of this Government, because without progress in the fight against corruption and organised crime and the independence of institutions, there is no progress in the European integration process, said DPM Marović.

Marović informed the Ambassador about the Government's plans to meet the interim and final benchmarks in Chapters 23 and 24 by the end of the year.

She said that the restructuring of the negotiating structure is expected, which will enable a more efficient and faster continuation of the negotiating process.

Speaking about the Open Balkan Initiative, DPM Marović pointed out that a more comprehensive analysis is needed to take a stand on this issue, saying that Montenegro's primary goal is EU membership.

Ambassador Presker pointed out that Slovenia has the institutional knowledge and is ready to help Montenegro and provide technical assistance in various areas of the negotiation chapters.
